make your bicycling experience everything it can be.
Staying in shape in the winter months, and getting ready for the spring/summer cycling can be as simple as the conversion of your bike to a stationary bike with a good bike trainer. Using a bike trainer like the Cycleops has the added benefit of consistency of fit, allowing you to try out off-season adjustments in position and components.
The bike to stationary bike change using an indoor training stand can also be an economical and efficient way to get exercise if the weather is inclement or time does not permit a longer outdoor ride. Switching back and forth from bicycling outdoors to turning your bicycle into an exercise bike is a simple process that does not involve altering equipment on the bike.
We offer both the Cycleops and
Minoura line of trainers to help you stay in shape and boost your
technique during the off season with an indoor cycling workout.
We can guide you through the selection process to determine the style of trainer equipment right for you:
- Wind Trainers - Create air resistance by using the roller to drive blades
- Magnetic Trainers - Create resistance through the use of magnets
- Fluid Trainers - Create resistance through the use of fluid filled chambers
A wind trainer's greatest advantage for indoor training is that it most
closely resembles the actual resistance you experience on the road. Wind
trainers are generally noisy, tend to vibrate and can be hard to
adjust.
With magnetic resistance units, resistance increases in direct
proportion to speed, which is less realistic than wind load simulators,
but they do provide enough drag to elevate your heart rate. Magnetic
trainers give the ability to adjust resistance and aren't as noisy as
the wind models.
Fluid trainers were developed to solve the constant resistance problem
of the magnetic trainers without the vibration problem of the wind
trainers. Fluid trainers are essentially wind trainers immersed in oil.
The run much more quietly than the wind trainers, and still provide the
progressive resistance.
Your trainer accessories are important, too, and we also can set you up
with the right accessories. Hart's offers training tires, heart monitors
(hyperlink to heart monitor page) and training mats that protect your
floor from sweat, absorb noise and keep the trainer
At our bike shop we use the CycleOps stationary bicycle trainer in our bike fit area. If you are interested this stationary bicycle stand can be tested before purchase.
